Nelly is a chihuahua mix who was born in approximately July 2015. She is a petite girl weighing around 5 pounds. Nelly suffered neglect and possible abuse previously. She was rescued in late winter, in which she was covered in fleas, starving, and almost frozen to death. Nelly has had a lot happen to her already in her young age. She has fears she is trying to overcome and is lucky to have her loving foster mom to support her.

Nelly loves cats and does great with other dogs after a slow introduction. She is crate trained and potty trained. Nelly bonds with the woman in the house the most, but will cuddle with anyone if they are sitting in “her spot” on the couch. Nelly is a typical chihuahua and distrusts strangers. She will bark at strangers (most often men), but we are working on socializing her to help her with this. By our surprise, Nelly rarely barks at the doorbell, door knocks, or people passing by. We prefer Nelly to go in a home without small children. One more thing about Nelly… she loves her ears rubbed!

Like all Mikey’s Chance dogs, this dog will come to you from a foster home that has provided loving one-on-one attention, socialization and some basic training, as well as quality food and exercise.
