I found a dog with no tags! What should I do?

If you have found a stray dog, you can bring it to an animal shelter facility within 3 days. If you choose to care for the dog while looking for the owners, you must still report that to the appropriate animal shelter within 3 days or they cannot accept the animal.

If you caught a stray you should take it to the nearest vet clinic or shelter to have them scan for a microchip. This is a free service. If they have a chip the clinic/shelter can call the company and hopefully they will be able to contact the owners. If not, you need to contact the correct shelter immediately.

Here are the local animal control services you should call!

If you decide to hold on to the dog until the owner is found you still need to contact the local animal shelters as that is the most likely place the owner will be looking for their dog. You should also call local vet clinic to give a description of the dog in case the owner looks there. Other good places to look for the owner is by posting a Found Ad on craigslist, Facebook, and/or in the newspapers.
